Statue of a youth binding his hair (Diadoumenos)

From Delos. Around 100 BC.
(ΕΑΜ/ΝΑΜ Γ1826)

The statue represents a victorious athlete with divine features or even the embodiment itself of the athletic ideal. The sculptor has applied to it the principles of symmetry and proportions of the nude male body that he had dealt with in his treatise “Canon”.
