Red-figure cylindrical pyxides

Unearthed together in the foundations of a house opposite the Polytechneion, Athens. 410-400 BC.

On the larger pyxis a depiction of women’s quarters is preserved, while on the small one animals are represented on the body, and three female heads on the lid. The vases contained psimythion, a powder of lead carbon that whitened the skin, making the face flawless
